Coordinating Council Meeting-May 3rd
What a great turnout for our last Coordinating Council meeting for 2009-2010! Over 50 Lions attended at the Onaping Falls Lions club for a great breakfast followed by a very uplifting meeting. Chris Penny, a friend of mine, was donated a Reader as well as a program for his computer to help him cope with his impending blindness. All this was graciously donated to him by the family of a good hearted soul, Rick Beaupre, a young man from Ottawa who suddenly passed away a short time ago. His family was so inspired by Rick's enthusiastic approach towards the dilemmas his blindness threw his way that they wanted to leave a lasting legacy. Rick's liver was donated to a young man who thanks to that, is now alive and doing well. His computer aids are being donated to those needing it yet unable to purchase such items because of cost, such as Chris. It was indeed quite uplifting to see the involvement of the Lions organization. A big thank you too goes to Lion Don Beddage who first contacted all Lions groups about this. Chris and I are both thankful he has put us in touch with the family and that they deigned it fit that Chris be the recipient of these items. I know he will make good use of them.
Here are a few pictures taken at the event. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all those who supported me as Chair for this year and most especially a big thank you to my great secretary, Lion Annette. I promise not to forget to pick you up next year lol.

Bonfield 32nd Charter Night
On February 20th, four of our members attended the 32nd Charter of the Bonfield Lions. District Governor's Lion Maurice Turgeon's theme of MOVE TO GROW was displayed throughout their hall with caterpillars and butterflies climbing up a representation of the ginkgo tree. We were entertained by a young singer by the name of Sarah Staley as well as a guest speaker, Patty Fedeli, who had us laughing while reminding us of the great accomplishments of the Lions' movement.
Foire Familiale-Ecole Franco-Nord
On February 10th, members of the Azilda Lions and the Franco-Nord PTA met at the den to make 200 rice Krispies squares for the family fair held the next day at the school. Here are few pictures of them working in unison.
The fair was a great success thanks to the donations from our Councilor Evelyn Dutrisac, The Azilda Lions and the Royal Purple #148. Over $1500. was raised while the families enjoyed games with their children, bid on cakes, ate to their delight and children got their faces painted. Have a look! What is even better is that the government will match our donation to Haiti 100%, meaning our donation will exceed the $3,000 mark!!! Good job everyone!
A big thank you to our three sponsors, as well as Le Marche Azilda, to the volunteers and most especially to the community for supporting this great cause. See you all again next year!
Death of a Member
Lion Diane had not been a member for very long with the Azilda Club but the time she spent with us made an impact on the club. Lion Diane enthusiasm will be missed. Her laughter and her willingness to help in whatever we had in store for her, made her a very good member. We will miss you Lion Diane. 'Till we meet again...

Senior Supper 2009
Over 30 seniors joined us again this year for a great Christmas supper put on by the Azilda Lions. They danced ti music put on by Lion Norm and friends through the evening. Everyone left with a little souvenir of the evening. A big thank you goes out to the kitchen staff and the many volunteers once more.
Breakfast with Santa
Azilda Lions joined forces with the Chelmsford Lions to put out a great Penny Sale at the Breakfast with Santa. There were gifts for all ages. Thanks to all those who came and supported this event. Thanks to Santa for once more bringing smiles to the many children's faces.
Keeping them Warm
Lions Madeleine, Pauline, Judy and Phyllis went shopping on December 3rd to help out Councillor Dutrisac's program of dressing over 80 children for the winter. A big thank you goes out to all the volunteers and the Zellers at the Southridge Mall. We saw many happy faces as everyone joined Santa at the Tom Davies square after for a great lunch put out by the Donavan CAN.

4th ANNUAL KEEPING THEM WARM CAMPAIGN
On behalf of the
Ministry of
Community & Social Services
and
our 2009 Keeping Them Warm Committee,
we would like to thank you for
being a volunteer shopper.
With the on-going partnership and support of Zeller’s South End, we were able to assist 57 children this year. Everyone had a memorable shopping experience -- the children loved the festive lights at Science North & the fun-filled wrap-up party which included a visit from the one and only, Santa.
This wonderful event would not have been possible without your support. Once again, thank you and we look forward to your participation in next year’s campaign.

Governor's visit
Governor Lion Maurice Turgeon visited our group November 24rth. Members from Chelmsford and Valley East Lions helped us welcome him. Governor presented the President of the Year pin to Lion Debra Christinsin on this occasion. Congrats to you Lion Brenda!
Golf Tournament 2009
Though were rainout most of the day, 22 teams participated in the tournament this year. Here are pictures of the winners. On this occasion, the Azilda Lions also made Lionel E Lalonde an honorary member of the club.
Thanks to all the players who braved the rain and played. Also, a big thank you to all our sponsors and volunteers. Without you, this would not be possible.
We hope to see you all on June 19th next year for another great tournament.
President's Supper
On June 23rd, President Lion Norm Beaulieu and his wife Lion Pauline cooked a great meal for the member of our club in thank you for all that was accomplished this past year. Twelve of our fifteen member were present. Missing were Lions Gisele Michalak, Lions Geatan Belanger and Lion Norm Depatie. Each member received a certificate of appreciation for the part they played in making this year the success it was. The comedic break in the evening was when Lion Gary was presented with an award for 'putting up with Lion Norm all year'. Everyone got a few chuckles out of that and I am sure Lion Gary will treasure that memory for a long long time. To everyone's surprise and especially to its recipient, Lion Ron Langlois, a Lion of the year award was presented to him. It left him chocked up and little teary eyed.
Lions Gary and Gisele received their 35 year pins and Lion Norm his 15year pin. For perfect attendance, Lions Ron L, Stan, Diane, Norm and myself were presented with a special pin honoring this feat. Also, Lion Ron L presented a photo of the Mounties that was given to the club in recognition of the work we have done for them at the Musical Rides. A cd will also be made which I will try to add on our website when I receive it.
To our great delight and joy, Lion Judy announced that coming September, she plans to attend as many meetings as possible and once more take an active part in the club's going ons. Welcome back Lion Judy! We have missed you greatly!
Here are a few pictures taken during the evening.

Jug Curling Tournament 2009
This year, 72 teams joined us for the Jug Tournament. Saturday afternoon, the kids were entertained by the clowns downstairs while the adults battled it out on the rink. The Chippers took over the trophy this year, followed by Crazy Cousins in 2nd place. Congratulations to all. We hope you enjoyed yourself and sincerely hope to see all of you again next year!
Breakfast with Santa with Chelmsford Lions
Just to see the smiles on the six hundred plus people who attended this event on December 14 was what made this day worthwhile. Everyone enjoyed the great breakfast put on by the Chelmsford Lions and the kids had a great time seeing Santa and appreciated the gifts they received from him. Ron's Mechanical furnished over 20 gifts for the Penny Table as well as a nice blanket for the door prize. This was something new that was tried this year. With my helper Chris Penny, a young man who will become an Azilda Lion next year, we sold for over $238 which will go back into the gift buying for next year's event. Great job everyone!
Lots more pictures available through the Chelmsford Lions website at www.chelmsfordlions.ca Check it out.
Senior Supper
On December 11th, we invited our Seniors for their annual Christmas supper. Over 35 of them joined us. Though we all had a heavy heart at the loss of Lion Andre Villeneuve who had passed away just that morning, we trudged on, putting on our best smiles and efforts into this event. A minute of silent was held before the meal in Lion Andre's memory. Thank you to Lion Pauline and her helpers for the great meal and thank you to the volunteers, the drivers and the musicians who once more made this night a great success and a fun time for our Seniors.
Loss of Azilda Lions member
Upon joining our club in 2006, Lion Andre immediately took on the post of Treasurer, a post he held to the end and did with great pride and joy. We want to offer Lion Judy our deepest of sympathies. Our prayers are with you, your family and friends on this saddest of days.

Induction of Stan and Diane Terava
With special guests from Valley East Club and our sponsor group, Chelmsford Club, along with special guest DG Ellen, the Azilda Lions inducted 2 new members into their Lions family on December 7, 2008. We would like to wish Lions Stan and Diane Terava a warm welcome. DG Ellen was ecstatic due to the fact that we have met her goal of adding two new members by the end of this year. Here are some pictures of the event. Welcome to Lions Diane and Stan!
Peace Poster 2008
This year, only 8 students participated in our Peace Poster Contest out of the close to 60 qualifiers. It was a bit disappointing but hopefully next year, we will have more entries. The winner for this year was Pierre Desjardins of Ecole Ste-Marie. He wins $100 from the Azilda Lions. Unfortunately, none of the poster qualified to send to International due to their size.
Congratulations to Pierre and good luck to everyone for next year!
Halloween Party
On November 1st the Azilda Lions had a Halloween Dance. Though not many attended, we still managed to have lots of fun. Thanks to boys in the band for the great music, our cook Lion Pauline for the great lunch, Lion Ron L for bartending and all who attended. Here are a few pictures that I am able to post. A lot of them I could not since this site is rated safe for children lol. Have a look. Those who were present will know what I mean. As for the others, well let's just say that a certain couple who attended gave us more than an eyeful!
Loss of another long time Azilda Lions Member
On October 20th, Lion Larry Nault passed away. Lion Larry had been a member of our club for many years, holding various positions through the organization. He will be greatly missed. Our sympathies go out to his friends and family.

Loss of a long time Azilda Lions Member
I am sad to report that a long time member of ours, Lion Marcel Brouillette, passed away August 8th. Lion Marcel joined our group in 1974. The Azilda Lions members offer their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Lion Marcel.
BROUILLETTE, Marcel - The family announces with sorrow his death in Sudbury on Saturday, August 8th, 2008 at the age of 69 years. Beloved husband of 47 years to Gisèle Brouillette (née Prévost) of Azilda. Son of the late Achilles and of the late Simone (née Guimond) Brouillette. Loving father of Carole Poirier (Gérald) of Chelmsford, Nicole Brouillette (Bill McCartney) of Mississauga, Ginette Poulin (Luc) of London and Lisette Génier (Donald) of Hanmer. Dear brother of Huguette Breton (Jean-Claude) of Azilda and Gilbert Brouillette (Claire Gignac) of Chelmsford. Sadly missed by his grandchildren Christian, Patrick, Danika, Ashley, Chelsey, Philippe, Colin, Josée, Joël, Alex and proud great grandpa of Danique. Lovingly remembered by his mother-in-law Colombe Prévost- Lalonde of Nova Scotia and by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Marcel was the long time owner/operator of Marcel Electric till his retirement in 1994. He will be remembered as a gentle man with an infectious smile who loved life and all the people around him. He was a proud member of the Azilda Lions since 1974, was an avid hockey fan but most of all was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. The family will receive relatives and friends at the CO-OPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 4691 RR15, Chelmsford, Monday from 7-9:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 at 3 p.m. in St-Agnès Church, Azilda. Donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. 11
Phase 2 of Rick McDonald Park Renovations
It was on July 3rd that members of the Let Them Be Kids and Councilor Dutrisac along with members of the Library Board and architectural firm met in order to discuss the changes they want to implement by next spring. As many of you know, our library is in dire need of repairs and upgrades. The museum started a few years back is now stored at the Chelmsford library. Upon bringing the sketches of the old fire hall to the an architect, it was decided that tearing it down as was once discussed, might not be the best solution. Instead, the group decided to renovate it and make it into what will then be both our new library and museum. Discussion was held into may integrating an outdoor gazebo style patio around the front and sides, allowing visitors to sit outside, reading their books. The group wanted to advise the community that nothing will be done this year as all this has to be brought to the Library Board and Council for discussion and approval. A fundraising campaign will have to be started in order to raise the extra funding necessary. Councilor Dutrisac was very optimistic and so was Ziggy Zaldiner, member of the Let Them Be Kids.
If you have questions or ideas about all this, here are the contact emails:

Here is an idea of what the old fire hall will look like when it is finished being remodeled.
The Azilda Lions took this opportunity to present a cheque of $500 consisting of 75% of the net profits their spaghetti suppers raised for the Rick McDonald park. The suppers will go on next year again. We hope you will pass the word around and join us for this wonderful meal, every 3rd Thursday of every second month starting in September. (Check Fundraising link on here for the exact dates).
