March Governor's newsletter

Lion Maurice Turgeon, DG

Governor Maurice Turgeon's Comments: November, 2009

So here we are in our fifth month of this Lions year. Just where does the time go? Membership is still our biggest concern with only 12 new and now 45 dropped. However, things are starting to look promising with several clubs on the verge of inducting new members in the next month. We certainly have a long way to go but I'm confident that we in A5 will meet the challenge and Move Forward and Grow as our year progresses.

I'm sure our District Clubs join me in congratulating the Lions Club of Sudbury on the occasion of their 85th Charter. Their night was a grand affair with a great crowd and an excellent guest speaker. We were wined, dined, and entertained... what else could you ask for?

I can't help but be impressed by the hospitality extended by the Clubs I have visited so far and it seems that everyone is really busy this of year and I'm sure it's going to get busier.

Being elected to the position of District Governor comes with responsibilities, which I think the Club expect will be taken seriously, and making decisions, which are for the betterment of the District, even though not popular, comes with the territory. Having said that, it is evident that we must make changes which will help us Move Forward with a greater resolve and make us stronger to meet the challenges of tomorrow. Change for the sake of change is not necessarily a good thing, but change with a purpose is the ultimate goal.

I look forward to visiting most of you soon and appreciate all you do for your Community and the people of the world.

Good Day Folks;

    Please find attached the visitation schedules for the Governor, 1st VDG and 2nd VDG. Would the Zone Chairs please either enter your visitation dates on the chart provided or send me a list. Please keep in mind that all your initial visitations should be done in the first quarter of the year which provides a suitable time period to identify and help any clubs that you identify as having problems. I require all visitations in my possession no later than August 5th.

    Thanks in advance for your assistance and consideration.
